The quality of a railway track (11), and how different vehicles will react to it, may be assessed with a track recording vehicle (10). This generates data streams representing short wavelength (high frequency) and long wavelength (low frequency) variations, for example alignment and curvature, which have been filtered in a way that introduces phase shifts. The data streams are subjected to a complementary filtration process (14) using both the high frequency and low frequency data streams, to obtain phase corrected data. The corrected data is supplied to a plurality of vehicle dynamics simulators (22) operating in parallel, the simulators being programmed to predict vehicle responses for different vehicles and/or at different speeds, and to operate substantially in real-time.
|
