PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active clamp circuit capable of absorbing energy due to overvoltage and preventing breakdown of a Zener diode in applying the overvoltage between the collector and the emitter of a transistor. SOLUTION: This active clamp circuit comprises an ON means 110 of turning on the transistor 101, an OFF means 120 of turning off the transistor 101, and the Zener diode 106 connected between the OFF means 120 and the collector of the transistor 101. The Zener diode 106 detects the overvoltage applied between the collector and the emitter of the transistor 101, and when the Zener diode 106 detects the overvoltage with the transistor 101 off, the operation of the OFF means 120 is stopped, to pass current between the collector and the emitter of the transistor 101, to absorb the energy of overvoltage in the transistor 101.
