PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head, a head gimbal assembly and a hard disk device capable of obtaining high reproducing output by reducing the interval between a magnetoresistance effect element and a recording medium. SOLUTION: In the thin film magnetic head 10, the distance of the end part of the side of a medium opposed face S in a magnetoresistance effect element 40 to a heat layer 80 is made smaller than that of the end part of the side of a recording medium opposed face S in an electromagnetic transducer 60(64, 61). As a result, even when the head 10 becomes a posture in which it bends its head so that the side of the electomagnetic tranducer 60 gets near a recording medium 2 when it is floated from the medium 2, the amount of thermal expansion by heat of the heat layer 80 of the magnetoresistance effect element 40 becomes lager than that of the element 60. Thus, the interval with the medium 2 of the element 40 is reduced and the high reproducing output can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
