The relay Ä1Ü has a fixed contact Ä6Ü and a movable contact Ä5Ü on a carrier Ä2Ü that is displaced by an actuator Ä7Ü that is in the form of a piezoelectric element. The relay is operated by a monitoring unit Ä10Ü that is coupled to a detector stage Ä8Ü coupled to the electronic drive stage. In the event that contacts become welded together the monitoring stage detects the condition.
