PURPOSE: An apparatus for preventing fire of vertical annealing furnace is provided which prevents frictional heat from being generated by deflection of strip in advance and extinguishes the fire even if a fire breaks out. CONSTITUTION: In a vertical annealing furnace(11) for annealing strip (S) entered into the annealing furnace through a sealed box(13), the apparatus for preventing fire of the vertical annealing furnace comprises a limit switch installed on a side of the sealed box to sense the edge of the strip at which deflection is generated; a blocking pad(37) for closing an upper side of the sealing box by moving cylinder(39) operated according to signals of the limit switch; and a gas supply pipe(41) for supplying purge gas into the sealed box according to signals of the limit switch, wherein the apparatus further comprises supporting stand, fixed bar, moving bar, connection wire and operating lever, and wherein the apparatus further comprises a fire extinguish part comprising switch cylinders(43), upper and lower covers(47,49), extinguish gas injection nozzle(51), extinguish gas supply unit(53) and heat sensor.
