PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving a plasma display panel are provided to reduce manufacturing costs of the plasma display panel by reducing the number of switching elements for driving circuit of the plasma display panel. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel includes the first and the second switching elements, a capacitor, a rising ramp switching element(Yrr), and a main path switching element(Yp and Yfr). The first and the second switching elements are serially connected between the first and the second voltages. The capacitor is connected between a contact between the first and the second switching elements and the third voltage. The switching element(Yrr) for ramp is connected to the third voltage to form the constant current. The main path switching element(Yp and Yfr) is connected between the contact between the first and the second switching elements and the switching element(Yrr) for ramp.
