<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic apparatus capable of processing an image of good image quality at high speed by reducing the contribution of reciprocity failure due to a plurality of beams. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus 1, its optical scanning optical system 10 periodically deflects laser beams emitted by respective light emission sources of an LD array having the plurality of light sources arrayed on one chip by a polygon mirror 15 to irradiate a photoreceptor drum 19, which rotates in a vertical scanning direction, in a horizontal scanning direction with position differences in the vertical scanning direction, thereby forming an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the photoreceptor drum 19.
