A method and apparatus for storing and retrieving different types of content relative to an audio CD is described. In one embodiment of the invention, input content of a certain type (110) is converted into converted content of that same type represented by currently unplayable data (111). The currently unplayable data is Redbook-encoded into data carried in Redbook encoded format (112). The data carried in Redbook-encoded format is optically recorded onto a CD (104). In one embodiment of the invention, data carried in Redbook-encoded format is optically read from a CD (104). The data carried in Redbook encoded format (112) is Redbook-decoded into currently unplayable data (111) representing converted content of a certain type, which was converted from input data of the same type. The currently unplayable data (111) is converted into currently playable reconstructed data approximately representing the input content (113). |
