The series-connected capacitors (C1,C2) are cyclically charged and discharged by a controller (3) synchronised with the rectified voltage wave (1), operating switching transistors (K1,K2). The larger capacitor (C2), with both switches open, sustains output voltage (Vout), through a diode (D2), during the cyclic wave-form dips. As the voltage rises towards peak, it overtakes the capacitor voltage, assumes the load duty and charges both capacitors via another diode (D1). At peak, a current limiter I2), (optionally, resistance) is switched in (K2). The larger capacitor continues charging at constant current. As voltage declines, the open switch (K1) is closed and the other (K2) opened. Both capacitors assume load duty; the smaller (C1) is soon discharged, whereupon its switch (K1) opens, and the cycle recommences. |
