PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head which is excellent in the shielding effect of an external magnetic field, a head slider, a head gimbal assembly, a hard disk drive, and a manufacturing method of the thin film magnetic head. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head 10 is provided with a first magnetic pole 61, a second magnetic pole 64 (64a), and an inductive electromagnetic transducer having a thin film coil 70. A recording shield layer 68 consisting of magnetic materials is formed at an opposite side to the first magnetic pole 61 in the second magnetic pole 64. A recording shield gap field layer 66 consisting of nonmagnetic materials is formed between the second magnetic pole 64 and the recording shield layers 68. The recording shield layer 68 covers at least both side parts of the second magnetic pole 64 at recording medium opposed face S side of the second magnetic pole 64 via a recording shield gap field layer 66.
