<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is low in cost, small in size and can obtain a toner image of high quality regardless of whether a fixing speed is high or low. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image forming unit for forming a toner image on an image carrying member rotating at a prescribed process speed, a transfer means for transferring the toner image on the image carrying member onto a recording medium, and a fixing unit for fixing the toner image on the recording medium at a prescribed fixing speed. The device has the high process speed higher than the fixing speed and the low process speed lower than the high process speed as the process speed and forms the toner image on the image carrying member at the high process speed. The device is provided with an idling cycle to idle the image carrying member without transferring the toner image on the image carrying member and has a control means for decelerating the high process speed to the low process speed during the idling cycle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
