PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem in a conventional control device for automatic transmission that the gear shift time varies because, once a target turbine speed change rate upon gear shift is set, the rate is not changed until the gear shift is completed. SOLUTION: A target input shaft speed change rate at each time t in an inertia phase time is set so as to be equal to the inclination of a straight line connecting an coordinate (t,ω(t)) corresponding to each time t to a coordinate (tir,ω_af).
