PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deviation between a display timing of an image display element and an image shift timing of an image shift element in a display device provided with the image shift element. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with an image display element 2 which has a plurality pixels arrayed and in which an image to be displayed is successively written on the basis of an input signal and an image shift element 3 which is arranged on the light exit side of the image display element 2 and optically shifts an image displayed on the image display element 2. Even in the case that operation of the image shift element 3 is not divided in a surface, the image shift element 3 can be divided because a period of image write to the image display element in one vertical period is made shorter than an effective image display period in one vertical period of an original signal of the input signal.
