PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for treating sulfate ion and calcium ion-containing water which can efficiently remove sulfate ions in water together with calcium ions without increasing the concentration of undesirable ions such as a chloride ion. SOLUTION: The sulfate ion and calcium ion-containing water is passed through an OH form, carbonate form, or bicarbonate form anion exchange column 1 to remove the sulfate ions. Subsequently the pH of the water is adjusted to≥8 in the presence of carbonate ions in an crystallization reaction column 2 to precipitate and remove the calcium ions as calcium carbonate.
