PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple auxiliary device for cooking for a microwave oven which shields an unheated part of a container to be heated from microwaves and a method of using it. SOLUTION: The auxiliary device 1 for cooking is a hollow box body constituted of a laminated body comprising a microwave shield layer having a spark prevention layer, made up of a resin foam, on the external surface, is provided with an opening 5 at a part of a side surface, and is used by loading the auxiliary device 1 in the microwave oven with the unheated part of a container to be heated inserted from the opening 5.
