It is intended to provide a novel membrane/secretion protein relating to the differentiation and/or metabolic function of adipocytes, more specifically, an adipocyte-origin secretion/membrane protein having an amino acid sequence which is the same or substantially the same as an amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 or 22; a nucleic acid encoding it; an antibody against it; a screening method and a screening kit for a preventive/remedy for diseases, in which failures in the differentiation/metabolic function of adipocytes participate, with the use thereof; and a preventive/remedy or a diagnostic for the above these containing the same.
