PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably and efficiently separate minute substance from liquid which is to be treated and contains the minute substance having the specific gravity slightly different from that of the liquid. SOLUTION: The liquid which is to be treated and contains the minute substance is introduced at the prescribed flow velocity into a cylindrical porous element 2 arranged in a casing 1 in a direction nearly tangential to the cylinder from an introduction port 3 arranged in the lower part of the casing 1 to thereby generate a whirling stream of the liquid to be treated, the centrifugal force generated by the whirling stream causes the liquid to be treated to collide with the element 2 at a certain angle, so that part of the liquid to be treated passes or permeates through the element 2, and thus the minute substance is captured and separated by the porous element 2.
