A method of producing a thin-film solar cell comprising the steps of forming a rear-surface electrode on a substrate, forming a precursor film on the rear-surface electrode, heat-treating the resultant product in an Se or S atmosphere to produce a CIGS-based light absorbing layer, and forming a transparent electrode on the light absorbing layer via a buffer layer, wherein a Ia group element-containing substrate is used to allow Ia group elements on the substrate to be diffused into a light absorbing layer at heat treating in order to improve an energy conversion efficiency, and the diffusion amount is controlled by the rear-surface electrode to thereby efficiently and effectively diffuse Ia group elements into the light absorbing layer at heat treating.
