<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make characters included in a video image legible while preventing the video image from being changed or from being obstructed by the characters. <P>SOLUTION: The characters extracted from the video image and recognized are displayed on a character displaying region 20 different from a video image displaying region 10 displaying an original video image. Since the original video image and recognized characters are differently displayed, the video image display can be prevented from being obstructed by the character display, thereby eliminating the necessity of deleting a character part from the video image. If the characters are wrongly recognized, since the original video image is displayed on the region 10, a user can recognize correct characters on the original video image. The user can set a typeface and the color of characters displayed on the region 20, the thickness of a line segment or a layout.
