PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone which calls back, utilizing a telephone number in a received character message. SOLUTION: The telephone has a line interface connected to a public network, a character message reception history memory for storing character messages terminated through the line interface and telephone numbers corresponding to the terminated character messages as received history data corresponding one to one, and an operating unit for inputting data, etc., a display and a controller 1 for controlling the whole. The controller 1 has a call back means 20 for calling a telephone number corresponding to a selected reception history data as an address by pushing a calling button 23 during showing this selected data in a character message reception history read mode.
