PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder and an image forming apparatus which can be easily and safely operated when a person using a wheel chair, a handicapped person or a person who works while sitting on a chair or the like uses them. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with the automatic document feeder 10 having a document feed tray 11 for placing the document d, and a draft discharge tray 18 which is disposed below the tray 11 and places the draft d discharged after reading. The space above the document discharge tray 18 is made open by turnably supporting the tray 11 by bearing members 42A, 42B, and turning it by a turning means 40 engaged with the tray 11.
