The method involves writing the non-video data to a first memory device (10) connected to the video interface in a transmitter unit (1), encoding the stored data into video data form, transmitting the coded data as a video signal to a receiver unit (2) using the visible region of the video image, decoding the received data into non-video form and writing to a second memory device (26) in the receiver unit.
