A remotely controlled vehicle (10) used for dredging, has two worm rollers (20a, 20b) of opposing pitch on either side of its longitudinal axis for propulsion and a number of excavation rollers (24a, 24b, 25) on the leading edge. The worm rollers (20a, 20b) extend outside the chassis (60) of the vehicle (10) and may house the drive mechanisms for the rollers (20a, 20b). The rollers (20a, 20b) are bearing mounted on suspensions (21a, 21b, 22a, 22b) on the vehicle (10) and may be raised or lowered independently. The material once cut by the front excavation rollers (24a, 24b, 25) is pumped using a centrifugal pump (40), into and removed via, a pressure line (15). The vehicle (10) is low in height and therefore suitable for dredging beneath a drilling platform (fig 1). |
