1,132,730. Forming metal strip. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 27 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 53849/66. Heading B5A. Metal powder is formed into a strip 14 by compacting it in the nip between rolls 10, 11 while directing a plurality of liquid or gas jets 19 arranged on either side of the strip into the roll nip. Instead of a plurality of jets on each side of the strip, a single sheet-like jet from a slotted manifold may be provided. The powder is fed from a hopper 13 with side plates 16 fitting alongside the ends of the rolls. Instead of plates at the sides of the hopper extending into the nip to prevent sideways spread of the powder, a nozzle may be located adjacent each side of the hopper to direct a liquid or gas jet into the nip.
