A roller bearing comprises an outer race, an inner race and rollers mounted therebetween, the outer race having two spaced-apart radial walls and the inner race having an annular seal of deformable material mounted thereon, the seal gripping the inner race firmly but being movable axially by the application of a force and the seal having two lips which define a small clearance or no clearance with the radial walls of the outer race. In an embodiment the radial walls comprise a washer 11, Fig. 1, a flange 12 of which is secured to an outer race 3; and a flange 13 of said outer race 3. A seal 14 is fitted on to a shaft 1 which also serves as an inner race, and is provided with lips 16, 17. The seal may be temporarily deformed during assembly and may be provided with a non- circular bore to ensure a tight grip on the shaft 1. Alternatively the tight grip is provided by means of projections or cavities in the seal engaging cavities or projections in the shaft. Rollers 6 are mounted in a cage 4 which is located by means of the washer 11. In another embodiment the cage is replaced by means of an extension 19, Fig. 2, of an outer race 18 and an extension 21 of a washer 11, the extensions retaining rollers 6 in the bearing.</p> |
