PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow good stratified charge combustion even when using an outside cavity 16 or an inside cavity 17, whichever. SOLUTION: A fuel injection valve 11 is arranged on a piston reciprocating axis 14 for injecting a fuel directly into a combustion chamber 1. A spark plug 12 is arranged near the fuel injection valve 11. The outside cavity 16 in the form of an approximate axial rotor relative to the piston reciprocating axis 14 is recessed in a piston crown surface 15.
