Stackable plastic lid with label for container closure has a circumferential edge bulge with stacking ribs and alignment ribs which extend into a label locator area of a lid below

Two or more lids may be symmetrically stacked above one another using a bulge-shaped edge(2a). Each lid edge has circumferentially spaced stacking ribs(40a,40b,40c) which are supported on an upper side of a bulge edge of a lid below and prevent overlapping apron areas from gripping each other. An alignment rib extends down to the upper side of the edge bulge of a lower lid and engages in a positioning recess(20) or rotation restrictor of the lower lid to prevent relative rotation between the stacked lids. The lid closes a container and the circular circumferential U-shaped edge(2a) surrounds a lid panel(2b). An upper side of the edge lies above the panel and an apron area below. The symmetrical inner wall of the edge has a recess(20) in which a non-symmetrical tab part(11) of a label(10) covering the entire panel is located. The lid can be reclosed with inward projecting bumps on the apron which grip below an edge section of a container. Stacking ribs(40a40b,40c) are spaced at 30-120[deg], preferably 60[deg]. The edge bulge is open facing the base. No contact occurs between rotation restrictors and aligning ribs of stacked lids. When stacked a projecting aligning rib reaches below the upper side of the lid edge below to at least half the height of the edge bulge between lid panel and upper side. Alignment ribs and stacking ribs have a similar thickness to the lid. Alignment ribs and edge recesses are located on opposite sides of the lid. An arc-shaped rigid handgrip(3) is located on the edge near an alignment ribs and symmetrically between two stacking ribs. A narrow flexible joint area is created between an engaging bump and an adjacent stacking rib close to the start of the apron. An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing the lid in which: a) a label is placed in an injection molding tool cavity with the non-symmetric label tab section located in an appropriate holding area; b) plastic is injected to form a lid on which the label is attached; c) the lid with label is demolded and has an edge with an aligning rib, positioning recess or rotation restrictor surrounding the non-symmetric label holding area which acts in conjunction with an aligning rib of similar dimensions on the following molded lid.
