PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitoring system which can be introduced at a low costs, and can be remotely operated. SOLUTION: This remote monitoring system 1 is constituted of an illuminator 10, a home server 20, a center server 40, terminal equipment 50, and an Internet service provider(ISP) 30 for connecting the terminal equipment 50 through the center server 40 to the home server 20. The illuminator 10 and the home server 20 are connected through an already established power line 11, and the illuminator 10 is provided with a human body sensing sensor 12 as an event change detecting means and a camera 13 as an image pickup means. The image of an illegal intruder detected by a human body sensing sensor 12 is imaged by a camera 13, and transmitted from a control unit 14 through the power line 11 to the home server 20. The home server 20 is connected to the center server 40 as necessary, and a picked-up image is transmitted to the terminal equipment 50. Since the illuminator 10 is provided with the human body sensor 12 and the camera 13, and communication is performed through the power line 11, the already existing facility can be utilized, and that this system can be introduced at a low cost.
