PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a method for blowing in oxygen-containing gas from carbon lances efficiently in a method for burning and removing attached carbon by introducing the oxygen-containing gas into a carbonization chamber. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the carbon lances 16 for burning and removing carbon attached in the carbonizing chamber by introducing the oxygen-containing gas from opening parts 21 of the lances inserted into the carbonization chamber of a coke oven is provided by visualizing the behavior of the gas flow by using a reduced scale model 22 of the carbonization chamber having a function of visualizing the behavior of the gas flow and adjusting at least one condition of the insertion ports of the carbon lances such as the insertion depth of the carbon lances, the shape of the opening parts 21 of the carbon lances, the position of the opening parts of the carbon lances, the number of the opening parts of the carbon lances and the blowing amount of the oxygen-containing gas from the opening parts of the carbon lances based on information from the model.
