PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent confusion during a transition period from a facsimile machine or a data-collecting unit for transmitting/receiving diagnostic data by an image to the facsimile or the data-collecting unit for transmitting/receiving diagnostic data by non-image data, with regard to the transmission/reception of the diagnostic data of the facsimile machine. SOLUTION: The facsimile machine analyzes NSF from the data-collecting unit and transmits the diagnostic data by means of non-image data if the data-collecting unit is a personal computer, and if the unit is not a personal computer, it transmits the diagnostic data after converting them into image data.
