<p>A plant bed waste water treatment pond has a de-nitrification stage which is pref. integrated within the pre-treatment stage. The pond further has a substrate material (e.g. pond bed, suspended solids) which fix biomass (bacteria), and a water re-circulation system which takes effluent water from the pond. The biomass is fixed using any available substrate material whether part of a fixed installation, suspended matter, or matter maintained in suspension by mixing. Removal of excess sludge (e.g. biomass liberated by the de-nitrification substrate) is removed by an intermediate sedimentary stage. Alternatively excess sludge is removed by sedimentation prior to or after the de-nitrification stage. The de-nitrification stage incorporates a mixing assembly.</p> |
