AROMATIC POLYIMIDE FOAM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lightweight aromatic polyimide foam by introducing a foam structure while making the best use of characteristics of an aromatic polyimide and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The aromatic polyimide foam mainly comprises a nonthermoplastic aromatic polyimide, has closed cells with 0.01-100 micrometer size and the occupied area of the closed cells in a cross section is 30-95%. The method for producing the aromatic polyimide comprises bringing a polymer mainly composed of the nonthermoplastic aromatic polyimide into contact with a carbon dioxide gas in the presence of an organic solvent under 5-50 MPa at 100-400°C to produce an aromatic polyimide molding precursor and removing the carbon dioxide gas while extracting the organic solvent.
