[Also in Division D1] Fabric for babies' napkins has a zone of pile disposed so as to form the middle of the folded napkin. The part that comes in contact with the skin is preferably hydrophobic and the fabric also contains hydrophilic fibres. If the fabric is folded to bring the pile to the interior of the napkin, the base fabric is hydrophobic and the pile is hydrophilic. If the pile is next to the skin, it may contain hydrophilic loops 33e11, Fig. 22, which shrink on laundering and hydrophobic loops 33e1 which maintain their original height; or the pile yarns may have hydrophilic core sheathed with hydrophobic fibres. The base fabric may consist of two layers 43, 44, Fig. 5, the pile 35a passing through both layers which are thereby joined together but are left separate at the pileless zones 36a, 37a. A fabric, Fig. 23, having a pile zone 35f is folded as shown in Fig. 24 and stitched at 72, 73; a similar napkin can be produced if the pile zone is on the panel 31f. A two-layer napkin is produced from the fabric shown in Fig. 27 by folding the panel 31h over the pile 35h so that the pile is inside. If the panel 31h also has a zone of pile, the fabric is folded with the zones of pile on the outside; such a napkin can also be made from a piece of fabric twice as long as the napkin having a central stripe of pile.
