PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a process apparatus and to improve the quality of products when the process apparatus is operated. SOLUTION: The packing has a packing material body 52 and spacers 63 which are disposed at the outer peripheral surface of the packing material body 52, have elasticity and maintain the clearances between a column body and the outer peripheral surface of the packing material body 52 constant. In such a case, the clearances are maintained constant by the spacers 63 and therefore even if a shell is placed horizontally, the exertion of the weight of the packing 51 to bent flaps 56 of collars 53 and 54 can be suppressed. Consequently, not only the state that the flaps 56 are held open can be maintained but the easy restoration of the opened state is possible as well even if the flaps return temporarily to the original shape and therefore the formation of wall streams can be prevented.
