PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formaldehyde scavenger which has excellent formaldehyde scavenging properties, is safe, and has antibacterial properties and a method of scavenging formaldehyde. SOLUTION: The formaldehyde scavenger is characterized by containing a water-insoluble conjugated protein containing silver obtained by bringing a water-soluble protein containing 0.1-200μmole/g of an active thiol group and a silver salt into contact with each other in water, a protein, peptides, and a compound having at least one amino group selected from among amino acids.
