The invention proposes that the light source (LEDs) of the third brake light provided on the rear of motor vehicles be arranged in a pattern to display alphabetical or numerical characters to provide an advertisement message such as, e.g., the make of car. Alternatively a cutout mask can be placed in front of the normal homogeneous light.
