<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for forming a photocatalyst layer that forms a photocatalyst layer having an adequate porosity and an excellent smell preventive effect while maintaining its high photocatalitic activity, a structure to support the photocatalyst layer having smell preventive effect, its manufacturing method, and a smell preventive method. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for forming the photocatalyst layer contains the powder and/or the sol of a photocatalyst, a metal oxide sol and/or a metal hydroxide sol and a silane compound expressed by formula (I): Si(Cl)<SB>n1</SB>(OH)<SB>n2</SB>(R<SP>1</SP>)<SB>n3</SB>(OR<SP>3</SP>)<SB>n4</SB>(OR<SP>3</SP>)<SB>n5</SB>(I) (wherein R1 is a 2-6C alkyl group optionally having a substituent or a hydrocarbon group with a hydrophilic substituent at the end; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a 1-6C alkyl group or the like; n1, n2, n4 and n5 are each 0 or an integer of 1-3; n3 is 1 or 2; n1 + n2 + n3 + n4 + n5 = 4). The structure to support the photocatalyst layer comprises a base body and the photocatalyst layer having smell preventive effect placed on the base body.
