PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rust-inhibitive coating that can effectively form a rust-inhibitive film on a metallic material at room temperature and does not reduce rust-inhibitive effect even when a pin hole is generated in the rust-inhibitive film. SOLUTION: This rust-inhibitive coating is obtained by mixing a powder containing zinc, silicon dioxide and calcium oxide, a curing agent containing water glass, and water-soluble synthetic resin. The coating is cured at room temperature by a reaction among silicon dioxide, calcium oxide and the curing agent. Furthermore, the coating adheres very strongly to the metallic material that is a target of the rust-inhibition as the water-soluble synthetic resin is a binder. Accordingly, the coating can be applied to a surface of the metallic material with a roller etc., and exhibits rust-inhibitive effect merely by curing at room temperature. Furthermore, the coating produces a 0.5-1.0 V potential difference across zinc and iron contained in the coating, so that iron is not ionized (oxidized) and generation of rust is prevented even if a pin hole exists.
