PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smelting a high-Cr molten steel, which does not cause the surplus oxidation of Cr in a molten-metal holding furnace, even if the molten-metal holding furnace having a heating function is arranged between a smelting furnace for a Cr-containing molten iron and a decarbonization refining furnace, and moreover, effectively controls the oxidation loss of Cr in the decarbonization refining furnace while preventing the refractory of a furnace wall from eroding. SOLUTION: In the method for smelting the high-Cr molten steel, which temporarily holds the Cr-containing molten iron in the molten-metal holding furnace provided with the function for heating the molten metal, arranged between the smelting furnace of the Cr-containing molten iron and the decarbonization refining furnace, and which taps the Cr-containing molten iron out from the molten metal holding furnace to the decarbonization refining furnace, according to a smelting schedule in the above decarbonization refining furnace, to refine it, this refining method is characterized by keeping a temperature of the Cr-containing molten iron in the above molten-metal holding furnace 50-150°C higher than the temperature of the liquidus line of the Cr-containing molten iron, along with controlling a C concentration in the molten iron to 3 mass% or higher.
