PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fire fighting equipment which can detect an outbreak of fire and start fire fighting activity before it grows even to a slight fire, and which is easily mounted on any existing fire extinguisher so as to actuate individual fire extinguishers separately. SOLUTION: An actuator for transforming an elastic member made of a shape-memory alloy is fixed between levers of the fire extinguisher by the following step. The elastic member is transformed through the process of applying an electric current to it and heating it over the martensitic transformation temperature. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
