摘要 A heating system for a building comprises a boiler 100, radiators 96, 110 and a secondary heat exchanger 104. Return water from the radiators 96 is circulated through a first core 102 to cool flue gas from the boiler 100, returned to the boiler 100 or part of it directed to a further radiator 110 and to a further heat exchanger 114 to heat ambient air for the boiler 100 and then back to a second core 116 at a temperature well below the dew point of the water vapour in the flue gas. Second core 116 is submerged in a reservoir 120 for water 122 at a temperature well below the dew point of the water vapour in the flue gas, the water 122 level being governed by a weir 124. Water is drawn out via pump 124 to a manifold 126 having orifices and mixed with the flue gases for subsequent cooling whilst passing down a tortuous path through a plurality of horizontal spaced apart baffles 128. The cooled gas leaves through flue 130. Water 122 collects in reservoir 120. The water may become acidic since sulphur dioxide in the flue gas may be removed. The acidity of the water 122 may be removed by a neutralising cartridge 132 which may be rechargeable. The pipework 134, pump 124, manifold 126, baffles 128, core 116 and the interior of the secondary heat exchanger may be coated with a material not affected by sulphurous acid.
