PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein, although a primer is used to improve bonding strength in bonding a difficultly bondable adherend such as rubber, an elastomer, or a synthetic resin, a conventional solvent-based primer is problematic in the health of a user and in the environment and a water-based primer is problematic in its ability to realize the sufficient strength. SOLUTION: A composition essentially consisting of polychloroprene and polyurethane which are dispersed or dissolved in water can give excellent bonding strength when used as a water-based primer and can solve the problem of the health of a user and the environment. In one embodiment, the water-based primer is the one wherein the polyurethane is a polyester polyurethane. A method for bonding an adherend by using the water-based primer is also provided. This primer can develop excellent bonding strength even to the difficultly bondable adherend such as the rubber, the elastomer, or the synthetic resin. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
