PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing head forming a recording mark in which recording noise accompanied by the defective formation of the recording mark is suppressed from increasing, and the resolution of reproduction is also suppressed from decreasing during magnetic reproduction. SOLUTION: The recording head has a light source, and a scatterer for recording information by forming a magnetic domain array on a recording medium by irradiating it with light from the light source to generate near-field light, and the outer peripheral part of the scatterer is constituted of at least two or more vertexes and a distance between the vertexes is shorter than the recording track width on the recording medium. Thus, the recording density can be improved, and cost reduction per unit capacity of the information recording and reproducing device and high reliability can be achieved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
