PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the retry of recording and reproducing by which an efficient retry operation can be performed. SOLUTION: The position of a radius on a disk being an object of recording and reproducing is detected (ST11), the upper limit value of a retry time of recording and reproducing is set based on the detected result of a radius position on the disk (ST12), and the retry operation of recording and reproducing is controlled within the range of the upper limit value of a set retry time (ST13).
