PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head that can obtain a large reproduced output by miniaturizing it to meet the demand for high density recording and suppress overheating, and to provide its manufacturing method and a disk drive using this head. SOLUTION: A heat radiation layer is provided neighboring the magnetic transducer layer on the reverse of its side facing the recording medium, to radiate the heat generated by the transducer layer. On the side opposite to the side facing the recording medium, the edge is formed to 2nm thickness or larger but 30nm thickness or smaller. By this, the heat of the magnetic transducer layer is radiated more effectively than before, to control the temperature rise. Thus, it becomes possible to suppress the electrical resistance increase and obtain a larger reproduced output. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
