PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filler metal for welding aluminum alloy with which in the usual MIG welding using one filler wire, a weld zone with smut hardly adhering thereto and with high joint strength and high toughness at deposited portion is obtained and a method of welding aluminum alloy using the filler. SOLUTION: The filler metal for welding aluminum alloy contains 1-4mass% Si and 0.5-2.0mass% Mg, and further, one or more elements selected from the group which consists of 0.05-0.5mass% Mn and Cr, 0.02-0.4mass% Ti+B (wherein 0.01-0.2mass% Ti, 0.01-0.2mass% B), 0.05-2mass% Zr, and further if necessary contains 0.1-1.0mass% total amount of one or more kinds of elements selected from the group which consists of Ce, Y, La and Sc, and the balance aluminum and inevitable impurities.
