A sleeve pressing machine comprises two vertical parallel sleeve formers each having a steam pipe 31 and an air permeable bag 43 over which the sleeves are dressed and moveable pressing plates 59 to press the sleeve portions which face each other. When the sleeves are in position the bags 43 are inflated by steam which issues from the pipe 31 into the steam chest 37. The presser is moved between the bags and compressed air clamps the plates 59 against the sleeve and steam chest 37. The duration of this pressing operation is timer controlled and then the air is vented from the plates 59. The bags 43 are self venting. |
