[Also in Division G3] Flow of fluid from an inlet 3, Fig. 1, to an outlet 4 via a space between inner and outer spherical members 5, 2 is controlled by a valve 23<SP>1</SP> carried by a tube 20 which is connected to a diaphragm 7; the valve 23<SP>1</SP> is closed by a spring 25. Upon admitting a controlling pressure into the right-hand side of the inner member 5 the diaphragm 7 is urged leftwards to open the valve 23<SP>1</SP>; the resulting outlet pressure is transmitted by a probe 29 and the tube 20 to the left-hand side of the diaphragm whereby the valve 23<SP>1</SP> is moved to a position wherein all the forces on the diaphragm are balanced. A safety valve 33 co-operates with the inlet 3, which valve is provided with a needle pilot valve 43 carried by a bellows 47, the interior of the latter being open to the controlling pressure whilst the exterior is acted upon by the outlet pressure in the tube 20. Should the outlet pressure exceed the value of the controlling pressure the pilot valve 43 is unseated from the valve 33 and inlet pressure acts on an annular piston 38 to close the safety valve 33; the last-named is reset by exhausting fluid from the piston 38 via a tube 55 and a manuallyactuated cock. Another separate valve 91 (Fig. 4, not shown) with differential pistons 96, 97 is provided to cause valve 33 to seat in the event of the outlet pressure falling below a given value. The controlling pressure is derived from a port 74 (Fig. 3, not shown) supplied by a slide valve 80 with tapered ends 81, 82 and controlling the connection of a port 83, open to the inlet port 3, Fig. 1, to either an atmospheric port 84 or a passage 79 leading to a chamber 71 in which is port 74. The valve is adjustably loaded by a spring 85 in opposition to weights 77 on a piston 75 fixed to the valve 80; a damping piston 78 is associated with the weights 77. With chamber 71 unpressurized the valve 80 is urged to its lowest position; pressure fluid introduced at port 83 acts on the piston 75 to elevate it to a position where the tapered part 81 has modified the inlet pressure sufficiently for the valve to assume a balanced position, which pressure is transmitted to port 74. Any variation in the controlling pressure caused by the valve of Fig. 1, if reflected in the pressure in chamber 71 and causes operation of the valve 80 to restore the required controlling pressure. A diaphragm-type pressure-regulator and an electrically-actuated valve are inserted between the main inlet and the supply to the various auxiliary valves; the electrically-actuated valve may be operated by a speed transmitter actuated by a metering and transducing device downstream of the valve 23<SP>1</SP>.
