The suit (1) is made of thick heat insulating material and has a closed helmet (2). There is a thin panel made of aluminum foil (3) in the front of the suit through which heat exchange can take place. The edge of the foil panel can be ultrasonically welded to the surrounding material. The suit may be cooled by admission of cold air or oxygen. To prevent overcooling the cold gas is passed over heat exchanger ribs in an aluminum plate with a steel disk and a convex surface in contact with the aluminum foil. A matching concave heat exchanger with a permanent magnet engages the outer side of the foil and has ribs and may have a heater.
