PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounted positive characteristic thermister in which there is no or little directivity of a case and which is easily manufactured at low costs, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The thermister is composed of a planar positive characteristic thermister element for which electrodes are formed on both main surfaces; an insulation case having an internal space to which the positive characteristic thermister element is inserted; and a pair of metal terminals arranged so as to be respectively in electric contact with both main surface electrodes of the positive characteristic thermister element in the internal space and to clamp the positive characteristic thermister element. The insulation case is provided with a pair of main surfaces parallel to both main surfaces of the positive characteristic thermister element arranged in the internal space, a pair of opening side faces having an opening where the internal space is exposed to the outside, and a pair of end faces where terminal insertion holes are formed, respectively. For the pair of the metal terminals, each of one end part is inserted from the terminal insertion hole to the internal space of the insulation case, and each of the other end is extended along the outer wall of the insulation case to one main surface of the insulation case.
